In a tough pre-season friendly against Actonians, Fulham displayed a dominant performance but fell short in the end, losing 2-1. Despite controlling possession and creating numerous chances it was the hosts who walked away with the win.

Match Report

Fulham began the game well, dominating possession and pushing forward with intent. The team showcased excellent ball movement and controlled the tempo of the game however, they were unable to break the deadlock, with the final ball or shot often not quite hitting the mark. The first half ended goalless with Fulham the happier side after a promising start.

The second half saw Fulham maintaining their dominance and, early in the half, Madi Parsonson broke down the right-hand side after being released by a trialist and scored, bringing Fulham into the lead. The team continued to press and created several more chances but were once again unable to find the back of the net. Unfortunately, general pre-season rustiness led to a few momentary lapses, and Actonians capitalised on these opportunities to score twice, resulting in a 2-1 loss for Fulham.

Key Performances

New signing Lily Stevens was instrumental in midfield, linking play and creating opportunities, while the other new signing Evie Gane had another solid game in defence with both players integrating into the squad comfortably. Betty Baron Clark was impressive in the midfield and several trialists also showed promise, particularly in midfield and a trialist goalkeeper also impressive throughout.

Fulham's performance, despite the loss, demonstrated their ability to dominate and control games and will surely be a positive sign for the coaching staff despite the result. The team has always been excellent with their ball movement, creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities, and the trialists currently at the club will only elevate the levels we're used to seeing from the group. Conceding two goals is naturally disappointing but there'll no doubt be further improvements over the coming weeks as we move closer to the start of the season. Although the result was disappointing, it can be seen more as a learning opportunity than something to be overly concerned about.

Looking Forward

Fulham's pre-season continues with matches against teams in the division above them. These games will continue to provide excellent opportunities for the team to build on their work on the training ground and ensure that we get off to a flying start this year. It's positive to see Fulham really testing themselves, which will undoubtedly prepare them well for the competitive season ahead.

Fulham's next pre-season game will take place at Motspur Park on Sunday 4th August at 2pm - the opponent is yet to be confirmed. Fulham will be hoping to continue their positive pre-season form and kick on even further.
